That would definitely sort the wheat from the chaff, especially for a highly competitive keyword such as 'search engine optimisation'. I don't think it's foolproof though, as that means there are only 10 (ie: the first page of Google) SEO companies worth using, whilst I'm sure there are many more highly competent businesses out there.

I still find the best test for the quality of an SEO company is to type the phrase "Search Engine Optimisation" into Google and see if they come up in the list on the first page. If they can't achieve it for themselves then you have to question their ability to do it for you.

I think that the author should have included some of the tips from the article mentioned. I am a big fan of Robert Kawasaki and his books. But it is important to understand that in order to be successful you must always look at both sides of the coin. What I mean is, there are lots of ways to get funding without using credit cards, investors and Venture capital firms. I share one of these great funding sources in my blog which can be found at wwwcministry.blogspot.com

Exactly, that's why automated software is not the way to go if you are looking for high search engine results (in all but the least competitive industries). You need a human to assess the industry, the competition, devise the strategy and actually implement it.

Different niches require more SEO than others. Therefore, it will never be the case of "one size fits all".

Competition varies between niches.

Yes of course it will return to index your pages again and delete old content from their base. The only problem is that google doesn't index your site every day, it means there will be old content in their base until they update information about your site again and that can prolonged for few months if your site isn't very popular in google index.

Hi Fiona,

Thanks for submitting the information above - that's interesting about the Supply2 system, I wasn't even aware it existed. I've had a browse around the site and there is a free subscription for businesses to supply contracts in one location, and a paid subscription to extend the geographical catchment area to nationwide. I was just wondering what constitutes one location, is it the size of a City, eg: Newcastle, or is it a post code area?

Through Supply2.gov.uk you can access lower-value contract opportunities from both central and local government in a single location. It's the quick and easy way to find out about public sector opportunities.

Access to lower-value contracts can give SMEs the stability your business needs to thrive and grow.

Have a look at the portal at www.supply2.gov.uk
