Most of us spend a great deal of time reading, whether it be a blog, emails, articles, or news releases. Reading can occupy quite a lot of your time without you realising it - even if you only spend one hour per day reading, that adds up to a lot of hours per year! You might have heard about photo-reading or speed-reading, or heard what seem to be unrealistic claims about increasing your reading words per minute (WPM) to many thousands, and those that claim to read thick books in a few hours. Well speedreading can definitely improve your time reading, and for the mere mortal of us, even if you can’t make the 15,000 WPM, you can at least double your current reading speed if you follow some easy to use techniques, and practice with a fun free website application…

Working solidly for hours on end can sometimes be just what you need to burn through a significant amount of work in a short space of time. If you are doing work constantly, however, you’ll probably be spending that time working half-heartedly, and actually achieving a small amount. Some time off might be just what’s called for!

Due to my workload starting to reach a critical mass in the last few weeks, productivity and increasing my efficiency has been a hot topic for me recently. There are always different aspects in life, whether it be personal or business, that can be optimised to result in more free time if we only did things ‘the most efficient way’. Of course I’m not talking about those creative processes (such as web design) which shouldn’t necessarily be rushed - in many instances creativity will decrease if you worry about getting it done more quickly. The kind of productivity increases I’m talking about are for the day-to-day tasks which you’ve got to get done, such as answering email and ironically surfing the web. ‘Forgetfulness’ is a part of human nature, some suffer more and others less. Often forgetfulness is related to trivial issues that don’t really have much of an impact. In business, however, forgetfulness can of course cost money - and worst of all, the mistakes add up. If you make a costly forgetful mistake once a week, then you’re potentially making 52 mistakes a year. I won’t quantify an exact amount that this could cost you per year, but I’m sure you’ll agree the less forgetful mistakes you make the better!
